We left the dock at 4:45am with Captain Ed at the helm headed for a day of chunking at Massey's
Canyon. We arrived at Massey's Canyon at 7:00am and we anchored and began to chunk with Butterfish and
Sardines. While we saw a few fish caught nearby, it wasn't our day to catch a Tuna at Massey's on the chunk.
We then made a quick run just south of the 19 Fathom Lump and began to troll. The 19 Fathom Lump was filled
with boats chunking as we passed through the fleet with little to show. As we began to troll west away from the lump
we had our first knock down on the Blue/White Islander and Ballyhoo. Shortly there after as we approached
the 20 Fathom Line the Starboard far rigger with the B/W Islander began to scream and the fight was one.
After about a half hour fight Paul landed his first Bluefin tuna, which weighed in around 60lbs.
We continued to troll the area trying to find his friend without any luck. Proceeding further west a short
distance we had a White Marlin go through our spread knocking down 4 of our lines.
Birding highlights were a single Greater Shearwaters, 18 Cory Shearwaters, a possible Manx Shearwater,
2 Northern Gannets, and 2 Barn Swallows.
The crew for the day was Ed, Bill, Mikey, and Paul Guris
