We left the dock at 4:45am with Captain Dave at the helm headed for a day of chunking at Massey's
Canyon. While heading south along Cape Henelopen the fog rolled in to add some excitement for the journey,
but after about half hour the fog lifted and Dave brought the Snow Goose up on plane for the trip to the canyon.
Upon arriving at Massey's Canyon we anchored and began to chunk with Butterfish. We then set in for the wait
until the bottom Butterfish rig started to scream and the fight was one. Dave, with the help of Mikey, then
proceeded to land a 70lb Bluefin Tuna. During the fight we did have a big scare when the line got tangle in the
screws, but Mikey was able to work his magic and free the line.
Just as we were about to toss in the our last chunks several Yellowfin Tuna began to swarm at the back of the boat but
we were unable to get any of them to bite our lines. We then trolled our way back to the 12 Fathom Lump with a
single knockdown on the spreader bar. We arrived back at the slip at 5:30pm.
Birding highlights were two Greater Shearwaters, a Manx Shearwater, a Northern Gannet, and an American
Redstart at the canyon. On the way in, about 6 miles off of Rehoboth, we had an adult Parasitic Jaeger.
The crew for the day was Ed, Bill, Mikey, Dave, and Mike
