"Monday, with Capt. Ed at the helm, me as first mate, and Mike Sigda as honored
fisherman in his first off-shore trip on the Snow Goose (he's a co-owner), we
boosted our tuna stockpiles greatly with a 59 and a 47 pound Yellowfin. Also
caught 8 small but tasty Mahi.
Funny history to this trip began at 9 am Mon: We are at the Delaware Lt.
Ship, having already caught and released about a dozen False Albacore. The
discussion which has been going on for at least 24 hrs, is whether we should
proceed on to the Baltimore.
Ed says, 'I'm too tired, got too much to do at home. Lets just fool around in
shore and go home'. Note: the weather and seas are beautiful...light to almost
no wind, seas 4-6 ft but as gentle swells.
I say, 'You know Ed, if we don't go to the Baltimore, come December
and you look back on this opportunity, how will you feel then?'
We catch a few more Fat Alberts, debate Sea Bass fishing, when out of the blue
Capt. Ed says, 'pull in the lines, we're going for a ride...to the Baltimore'.
The rest is history. We only fished the Baltimore for 4 hours, and almost 1/2 of
that was realing tuna in, with lots of cussing about why they don't ever give
up.
The Snow Goose did great and at 26.5 kts got us home before dark. Birdwise: lots
of Wilson's, couple Audubon's, one Manx, and couple Greater's (my numbers), so
overall slow seabird-wise."
